My Inspiration

Snegurochka (Snow Maiden) – it’s a fairytale about a beautiful girl of snow, who came to life, as a last hope of the desolate people. It’s a symbol of soul purity, it’s a dream come true, it’s a priceless gift of life, which can melt like snow, if you don’t know how to keep it... White snow is like a clean sheet of paper, on which somebody will write their own new fairytale...

Shadow Songs of Forgotten Ancestors (next month)

Early in the spring, when ice was cracking and breaking on the rivers, my ancestors used to offer a sacrifice to the spirit of the river – Vodyanoy. In frosty midnights of February, they were bringing him a black horse, decorated with colored ribbons; people coated its head with honey and then drowned the horse in the depths of the river… Another legend recounts that on the New Year’s Eve, Fate turns into a White Horse and wanders from place to place, looking through people’s windows and hearts.

Shadow Songs of Forgotten Ancestors

A human being is like a tree. It’s not by chance that the symbol of a family tree reached present days through the thickness of centuries. Roots – ancestors, branches – children, flowers – grandchildren. Each of us carries information on their origins.

I want to tell my future grandchildren the legends of my homeland. I want to sing them the lullabies that my grandmother used to sing, I will dress my granddaughter in embroidered costumes that my mother used to wear when she was a young lady. I will tell them why my grandfather was sentenced to death by Communists and about the nightmares of the Gulag that my father lived through.
